Mad About Cartoons

Bill Wray is trying to make the transition fine art but is known as a cartoonist, a background painter/ Art director and sometimes animation director. This will be the place he post his ocasional animation and cartooning work and also be a place to bitch or wax sentimentally about cartoons in general. It’s been a love and hate relationship for many years and the long journey may not be quite over.

My Osama Mad job

Mad censored me a bit, but never as much as the Osama parody we did. Not only did Sam Viviano (the Art director ) make me make all the changes here… as further punishment, he cropped in on the panel cutting out almost everything else on the censored page. He was outraged I put all the visual jokes in the background, quote” We had the same problem with Will Elder.”

Oh man, love it! So much to look at! I bet it gets annoying to be censored.

When I read mad magazines I enjoy finding all the visual gags in the pictures.. its the reason I purchase mad.

The written stuff doesn't appeal to me at all, and Ill flip through the mag looking at only the pictures.

That said, it is possible to over do the visuals and the image becomes too cluttered, I guess this depends on the size it will be printed, So maybe thats why they cut out so many of your gags.

Your original version is really funny and cartoony though =)

Oh My God this is too funny!
Beautiful drawings but more importantly very funny!
I can't believe they asked/told you to remove all the cheekiness?

What happened to What Me Worry?

beautiful work. Really unfortulate about the cropping, you're original is a lot more interesting. Love the mountain Dragon Ball characters side gag.

How often do you do this stuff for Mad these days? Got anymore recent stuff?

I loved Mad way back when, but these days it's just so flimsy and, in my opinion, weak. You're far too good for them Sir.

Your version is obviously much better... censorship should be banned ;)

But seriously, the changes are ofcourse ridiculous, good thing you put your own version online, that way we can still enjoy that great art!

Oh and the sheep are sooo adorable :)
