Mad About Cartoons

Bill Wray is trying to make the transition fine art but is known as a cartoonist, a background painter/ Art director and sometimes animation director. This will be the place he post his ocasional animation and cartooning work and also be a place to bitch or wax sentimentally about cartoons in general. It’s been a love and hate relationship for many years and the long journey may not be quite over.

Hellboy Jr

As per popular demand here is some Hellboy Jr. sketches... some pencils for the trade, an unused page when The next HBJR book was killed, including the first sketchs of him. The inked page was a gift to Mike. This was a match made in heaven for me, The clout of Mike Mignola and the craziness of me. To bad the editor at Dark Horse and I just couldn't get along. He just so offended by my sense of humor, (he wanted to do G rated stuff,) so he poisoned the well. I'd love to do more the book. It sold well and the trade did really well. In this day and age of Dark Horse desperately needing money, you think they would sober up and stop being so mamby pamby, but no dice.

YES!! I 100% agree! I only wish Mike had his own blog, too (other than that one that updated fans on cartoon stuff I mean).
I haven't had the chance to read much HBJR, but I love whn other artists offer their take on Big Red

Are they a bunch of pussies at Dark Horse? I love Hellboy and thoroughly enjoyed Hellboy Jr too. Maybe I'm just a sick bastard, but I wasn't offended by any of it... I just laughed my ass off.

That is odd that it'd be too racy for Dark Horse. I read one of their Terminator comics, and it was a bit revealing. Then again, that was '91 or '92. Maybe they were more ballsy then.

Cool post!
Hellboy Jr. and Big Blown Baby are two of my favorite recent comic series. I usually don't go for much vulgar humor, but I like your style of humor a lot. It's hard to explain why. But your comics make me laugh my ass off, and that's what matters, right.

And your drawings are great!

Hey!
Nice pencils, it's really cool to see those pages. What would be the process for inking these? What is the actual size of the paper the pencils are done on? There are a lot of ways of doing things now so I just want to get an idea. Could there be a planet where art lives and pussies die? If so I say we start making plans for the rocket to get us there.
