Mad About Cartoons

Bill Wray is trying to make the transition fine art but is known as a cartoonist, a background painter/ Art director and sometimes animation director. This will be the place he post his ocasional animation and cartooning work and also be a place to bitch or wax sentimentally about cartoons in general. It’s been a love and hate relationship for many years and the long journey may not be quite over.

Super Girlz

This was a development idea for DC comics that was a bit of fun. The idea was to do the girl hero's as a Bratz kind of deal for animation. As thin a concept that is they it was really nice to work for on this one as the boss was real flexible and it was fun to do cartoon like attitudes of the characters. I looked a bit at Katie Rice and Shane to get a feel for silly big head girl poses, (not my forte) but managed to stiffen the poses a bit anyway. I believe what happened was a bunch of artist were hired to do the same concept. I don't know if the thing made it out of house to be pitched at the networks or was killed internally. It's to bad as I'd love to see a "tween" romance comic from DC.

beautiful colors. I'm curious about your execution. painter? or some custom photoshop brushes? or some other process completely? the textures give a nice feel.

Ohhhh man. I thought you had stumbled upon a super secret technique which produced great textures that felt organic (I understand that Painter has some capacity to get some decent textures).
The edited sketch under it kinda threw me off. I guess nothin can really touch traditional materials in the organic textures department.

looks great though sir.

Very cool! An all girl superhero show would be a really interesting concept.
