Mad About Cartoons

Bill Wray is trying to make the transition fine art but is known as a cartoonist, a background painter/ Art director and sometimes animation director. This will be the place he post his ocasional animation and cartooning work and also be a place to bitch or wax sentimentally about cartoons in general. It’s been a love and hate relationship for many years and the long journey may not be quite over.

During the last year I have been painting backgrounds for the new Nickelodeon TV Cartoon: The Mighty B." It's about the overzealous adventures of Bessie Higgenbottom (Amy Poehler V.O.) the most dedicated member of the Honeybees a Girl Scout like troop. If not adventuring with her Dog Happy she is often unintentionally infighting with her Nemesis Portia her rich fellow B member to see who can earn the most troop badges. The Show runner/ Co creator/ Director is the Multi- talented Erik Wiese and the gifted Art Director Seonna Hong have been a joy to work with. Here are some small typical background keys for the show. These are still done mostly by hand with sometimes a few adjustments with Photoshop. Ours is the best Ren and Stimpy influnced show to come down the pike in my opinion and are still proudly working in 2d!

The kids behind the show at our "Green light" for the second season luncheon last week. Missing is Larry( layout man extraordinaire) Murphy who took the shot.

These are fantastic! So happy you posted them... I've certainly been admiring your handiwork on the show. I'll be looking forward to the second season. Congrats!

With the Liquitex, are you using that mainly for large color areas, or details?

i got to look at your BG's a lot during my internship. along with the great people i got to work with, that made it really worth my time.
